Chocolate Bar Fundraiser

As per Dcdsb policy schools are allowed 1 fundraiser per year.

Last year we saw a drop in our chocolate bar sales for reasons unknown. I've suggested to Mr. Boland we go back to giving the student with the most sales, top prize. It seemed to work well in previous years.

It had been suggested by a parent to scrap chocolate bar sales all together and sell specialty coffees. I did call the company contact I was gaven and after confirming with the teaching staff, I've been told this product is priced to high for our school and won't sell. As a result I spoke with the chocolate bar distribution company and discovered that 80% of schools in Ajax sell chocolate bars in the fall well only 20% sell in the spring! St. Judes is one of the 20% and they do quite well. My suggestion to council last year was to move our chocolate bar sales to the spring of 2018 instead of fall 2017.

Inclusion of all students is important, that's why in all my years on council, I've always supported those children/families with food allergies. It had been suggested last year that we sell chocolate bars with almonds. As a chair I can not support this motion being that we are a nut-free school. All students at the school should be able to participate in the school fundraiser without fear of having an allergy attack. This is why we choose the products we do, for safety of ALL children. Nut-free, peanut-free is safest for all our families.
